New Painting

Night Heron Buckatunna Creek
Night Heron Buckatunna Creek 18 X 20 mixed media on board for The Three Muses

I grew up in Mississippi, and I lived in New Orleans for four years, so the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been on my mind a lot the past few weeks. I cannot find the words to express my feelings about the devastation of the beaches and wetlands of my homestate. I remember one night, many years ago, when my family was driving home from a dinner at a fishcamp, we saw a Great Blue Heron in a creek that ran alongside the road. We pulled over and watched this beautiful bird for a long time, until he finally disaapeared into the shadows. I will always remember how he looked in the moonlight on Buckatunna Creek.

The sight of a Great Blue Heron anywhere takes my breath away. We have them in a marsh near my home and they amaze me. They are so Zen-like and very big birds if you get close. A stunning painting in both color and image Kathy- I love this!

If our challenge had any small part in inspiring this beautiful piece, we're indeed honored, Kathy. You've certainly done the regal blue heron proud! Kudos, as always.

Haven't been around for a few weeks and I missed so much beautiful art!!! I don't even know where to begin.... Love it ALL!!! I regognized the Heron but didn't know that name - but I looked it up and it's like I thought, a "reiger" in Dutch. Wonderful creatures!!! Even in Holland we see the oil disaster on tv... me, being a sea girl - makes my heart cold.

The oil spill is more than a tragedy. I can't imagine what it must be like for the people who live in the Gulf area. It's all just sickening that this was allowed to happen.

Your painting is beautiful....you are so talented!

Love it.. its stunning and moody.. I can almost imagine the warmth of the sun as if it was my face about to be turned up to look at it and not the heron. I am waffling ... suffice to say i love your paintings.

This one and the previous post are just amazing. And yep, the oil spill is beyond my comprehension and something that leaves me feeling 'useless & helpless'. Great work!

Superb in every way. A magical piece of art with colours to die for.
Herons abound in my part of the world (by the sea in south-western Australia) but they are a very pale reflection of your magnificent Great Blue Heron.
