Painting for My Son

I've been in my art attic painting with Ava all weekend:

And here's what I've been working on:

My son Wesley, who is 20 and my youngest, discovered my blog recently somehow and called me last week to tell me how much he loved my art! What a moment of absolute zen. He made me log on to my computer and go back through all my old posts, telling me which pieces he liked best and why. Who knew he even had an interest in art? He’s always been quite creative but his medium is music. Before our conversation was over he’d offered to BUY 3 paintings (please!), linked me to two of his artsy friends on Facebook and asked me to paint a mural on the wall of his living room. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. This weekend I started a painting for my Wes. It’s not finished yet, but here it is. To share my passion for art with one of my children is pure Nirvana. Wesley and I were always very close; my husband said we were joined at the hip, but in the last 5 years, he’s been busy becoming a man, and, to be a man, he had to break away from me. It makes me unreasonably happy to know we’re still kindred spirits.

WOW!! Way to go Mom!! My son and I are the same way, have always been joined at the hip, because I was a single Mom and it was always just us. He lives 1700 miles away, with his family and because of work and finances, we do not see each other enough. But I have a chance on the 10th of April to see him and his family for about 24 hours, by way of my company. Yeaaaaa!! Have not seem them in almost 2 years. Sigh!! My Grandkids are growing up without me. But that 24 hours will be heaven!! Sharon

I'm very happy for you and your son. My children are a lot younger, aged 10 (twins) and 13. So they still pretty much admire my little pieces. I like the painting for your son and love your attic. In fact I'm a bit jealous... :)

Alberta,
The cool blue of your room is perfect to show off your hot paintings :). I just love contrast like that.

HOw wonderful and sweet that your son is now a FAN of your art. That makes my heart sing! My daughter and I are very close but she doesn't always compliment my art but when she does...I get really excited.
I ADORE your studio. It looks so clean and NEAT. How do you keep it so tidy? Love the color too!
Have a great week!
Hugs!!

Great Room!!! I have to make some art for my art room! My room is a storage room in our 948 square foot apartment. And my tables get covered, I spend as much time cleaning as I do creating. I can't wait until we move this summer (out of the bachelor pad yay!!!).

What a sweet story!!! I am so happy for you. I think our families know we are talented and admire what we do..but in my family I think they are so used to it...and when they do take the time to comment and really look at it...it's very very special. I can only imagine how you felt! When you said you were going to Home Depot to get boards cut you weren't kiddin!!! I absolutely lovvvve the painting and it's gonna look so awesome hanging on their wall!! Have fun my friend!

That post both made me laugh and cry.. I know exactly the feeling of feeling joined at the hip with a son who is trying to be a man. I can't imagine your JOY in creating something for someone who makes your heart sing... I love your work, and your studio made me go put on my overalls. Today I am going to paint something full of color and fun....

This is so sweet ! Every parent's dream right ? That their child would grow up to come back to them as a friend and to "get" them. So wonderful that you have art to share with your boy/man.

BTW, loved your comment on my blog the other day ! Really made me smile ! A fellow Neil lover ! (I thank my dad for that !). Know what ? Not only do I live closer to Neil than you, but I am from the same country as him ! That's okay though, I think there is enough Neil to go around ! ;-)

Happy April Fool's day ! Did you have any tricks played on you ?
Take care,
Kim

Hi Alberta! I saw your comment on my blog the other day, but I'm just getting around to letting you know! I've been stalking you for some time... I think I "found you" in the Crowabout group? It's so hard to keep up with where I found someone... one blog leads to another... and so on. I'm going to have to check out the art blog links on your page... I recognize some (Marsha, of course), but there are plenty new ones for me to explore. Thanks for the inspiration! Take care - Shelly :)

And you tweaked the "mom" strings of my heart when I read about your son walking you through each of your blog posts!! WOW! What a wonderful experience that must have been!! You have raised a son with excellent taste in art!!

I am so excited to see your blog site. I am fairly new to this and I was just perusing (sp)? I spend too much time online, but I feel like I struck gold here. Love all of your color. I am impatiently waiting for my son to leave for college so I can take over his space for my studio stuff. I love what you did with this room. Thanks for sharing. Somewhere out in Iowa somebody, me, will be using this for inspiration!

Alberta, what a special thing it is to have a loving son! And one so sensitive to your talents is extra special.

I must say I have never seen an art room so neat and clean. I will never show a picture of mine!

This post brought tears to my eyes as I thought of the sweet gift it is to have your child not only love you, but understand and love what you do. It sounds to me like you raised a loving, open, large-hearted young man. Bask in the glow....

I am getting ready to start putting my studio together and I am using these pictures as inspiration. Would it be okay if I added one of them to a post on my blog?
Thanks for your reply.
