Something Old, MMM
Celui j'aime 14 X 14 oil and acrylic mixed media over layers of old ticket stubbs, parking passes, maps, and brochures from special ocasions with my husband (for his Father's Day present). If you'll adjust your Zoom to view in 200%, you can see the texture much better. This painting fits the themes for MMM (Something Old) and Alter It Monthly (Birds).
Hummingbird D. H. Lawrence
I can imagine, in some other world
Primeval-dumb, far back
In that most awful stillness, that only gaped and hummed,
Humming-birds raced down the avenues.
Before anything had a soul,
While life was a heave of Matter, half inanimate,
This little bit chipped off in brilliance
And went whizzing through the slow, vast, succulent stems.
I believe there were no flowers then,
In the world where the humming-bird flashed ahead of creation,
I believe he pierced the slow vegetable veins with his long beak.
Probably he was big
As mosses, and little lizards, they say, were once big.
Probably he was jabbing, terrifying monster.
We look at him through the wrong end of the long telescope
of Time.
Luckily for us.

So gorgeous, Kathy. I love the texture and all the layers of tickets, etc. And your colors are phenomenal.
Kathy, this is absolutely gorgeous and your husband is a very lucky man.
I just learned the word "solstice" but I'm not sure if it is the right word to describe today... so let's stick to "Midsummer" and add some "night dreams" to it... enjoy the day!
Isn't this beautiful!!! I think that it may be my favorite piece of yours yet - the meaningful background, the bold, beautifully blended color and that bird. It is just stunning, Kristin xo
