MMM: Altered People

My Own Private Bali

I know that I've mentioned how much I longed to go to Bali in April for Anahata Katkin's week long mixed media workshop, Since I couldn't go to the retreat in person, I studied the photographs she posted on Flickr, and today I had my own private Balinese art retreat in my studio. Because one of my favorite subjects is altered people, the wallpaper panels she demonstrated were of great interest to me. You can see samples from her students here. Although mine is very miniature, I tried to apply the techniques Anahata taught, and here's my version of a wallpaper icon.

Is her name Flora? How wonderful is this? And accompanied by "Waltz of the Flowers" is just too, too delicious. What a fantastic treat to wake up to this Monday morning in Oz.

What a great idea to have your own Bali retreat at home! The link to the Bali workshop photos is beautiful!! Thank you for sharing that with us. The colors there are absolutely stunning! Maybe we'll meet in Bali someday! Happy Monday to you and your sister!! :)

Did you dress in brightly colored silks and drape fabric from the ceiling with flowers everywhere and light incense and candles and listen to Balinese chanting music ? You must have because your red beautiful lady glows rich in the flavor ! Wish I could have been there for the retreat - it sounds like quite a trip !;)

Would a mango candle and a paint-splattered men's dress shirt count? I also have a hot pink paper umbrella hanging from the ceiling. For my next trip I'll definitely have chanting music. Oh! Lightbulb!!! We should all set aside a day and have our own cyber Bali art retreat in homage to Anahata!

OH WOW! HOLY COW! I've been missing in action for a while and I've missed so much. Your gardens are to die for...I would love to come visit if I ever get back to GA (my daughter is visiting her friends there right now-Alpharetta). Such beautiful roses and foxgloves. I'm turning pea-green with envy!
Your artwork is spectacular as always but I'm really loving your Anahata inspired piece. I too would have loved to go to Bali and take her workshop. Not sure if it was her workshop or the idea of going to Bali was the bigger draw but I definitely lover her style and you've done a superb job!
Kudos!
I love your idea of everyone doing an Anahata-inspired cyber workshop.
have a great week and hugs to you!
