Verdure

Verdure

16" X 20" acrylic mixed media on canvas $250 plus shipping. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please e-mail me at katherinemccullen@yahoo.com

Last year I discovered the works of Katherine Treffinger, and she has been kind enough to correspond with me, answering my questions and encouraging me through the process of creating abstract art. Recently Katherine used the expression "Break the illusion of control" in one of her blog posts, and let me tell you: that rocked my world. All of my compositions, up to now, have been so tightly controlled, so this was a whole new concept for me. I was excited by the idea, though, and ready to give it a try. So, here's what I came up with, and it may well have been the most fun I've had painting, since my nursery school teacher, Miss Sadie, threw a piece of fabric on the floor and let the entire class crawl around and fingerpaint on it, (later making it into a dress she wore often and proudly). Ava named the painting "Verdure" because she said it looked "mossy." While I was painting, I thought of camelias and mimosa blossoms, so the title seemed perfect to me. Surprisingly, it fits 3 challenges, so I suppose there must be something to this "painting intuitively" business. (Saturday Surprise Saturday Workout and Creative Therapy.)

OH WOW!!! I'm loving this! I love Katherine's painting also. I have been to intimidated to try abstract--
I'm too controlling. I think I'll pop over to her blog and read her post.
You did a FABULOUS job here. Love the textures and colors.

Control, control. I once decided to make a wild big painting. So there I sat with this big white thing in front of me. I had to force myself to start and in the end I made flowers. I couldn't let go of the control. So I'm impressed that you made this despite you're controlling nature. I think it is beautiful. And keep doing this you're so talented. I will be following your progress.

What a wonderful beginning to what I know will be a fabulous journey of exploration into abstract art. "Letting go" is much easier in theory than in practice - said by one of the original Control Freaks. You should be so very proud of this first successful effort. Congratulations!
Hugs,
Terri :) xoxo

Beautiful colors and couldn't we all use a little lack of control. So tightly controlled sometimes I think it holds me back.

Alberta, my computer froze when I clicked on your blog, and I was waiting and waiting on then this picture popped up, and when it did my eyes almost popped out! It's so gorgeous and rich. I love Ava...I was saying the name in my mind and loving the word and then I read that Ava named it that, of course she would, she knows! I have never even had the nerve to touch canvas! I admire your experimentations! I wish I could crawl around on the floor and finger paint! Sounds fun!!

I am glad you led me to Katherines blog to see her beautiful paintings, I can see why you were so inspired!
