Glov-ed Freaks
I made this for Sunday Postcard Art's Joker challenge, and Crazy Amigos' Hand challenge, and then it turned into art therapy for me. Ava and I rented the movie Funny Games last week and it was so horribly disturbing that we couldn't watch but about 10 minutes of it, but we've been unable to get it out of our heads. We mistakenly assumed that, because it had that cute Naomi Watts in it, it would be good. But we were wrong. Cute house dress, though. Among the many things that horrified us about this film were the two weirdly polite androgynous serial killers clad in tennis attire and, of all things, white Al-Jolson-like gloves. IMDB says the film is about how "depictions of violence reflect and shape our culture." Give me a break! Ava hates this card. I made it pink and green, my favorite colors (Arty Girlz) in my attempt to desensitize myself to this piece of pretentious, stylish violence-porn, but I don't think it's working. I put little white bubbles all over my collage, and I even added lace and flowers and an inspirational quote and funny little dog, and Ava still hates its guts. Anyway... you are forbidden to even think about watching this movie. Glov-ed freaks!
This award flew all the way from the Netherlands from Audrey by way of Shannon's blog in California. Isn't it pretty? I'd like to pass it and another award:
on to some of the most creative and inspirational women I know because they are the bees knees and "they are artists who invest and believe in the PROXIMITY- nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated." So propagate on, Sistahs!
Sharon, Sandy, Bev, Janet, Heather, Barbara, and Giggles, and Rosie.
Roc, I know you already got the Kreativ Blogger, but the Proximity Award is for you and Audrey and Shannon, you too! Everyone should check out the blogs of these incredible women and be sure to read Shannon's good news about her gallery show next month.
Love,
Alberta

Thank you so much for the awards, A&A! I'm honored.
Thanks so much Alberta.
This is made me really proud.
Your new creation is again stunning.
Me again. We all benefit muchly from your art therapy, Alberta! This guy is deliciously evil, the quote is great, and the page (as always) is such fun to study.
I love your joker postcard. Bev is right, he is deliciously evil. :)
Ah I can tell they are your favourite colours as they are the same as your header ;)
I hope those images get out of your head soon....... I steer clear of anything scary myself lol
Thanks for joining in with Arty Girlz xxx
Thank you beautiful blogger person for the awards and the nice words.
About the movie I will certainly take your warning and never ever even think of watching it.
Today, I will be thinking about "...technicolor butterfly shells..." on the wet sand of the beach and I will be thinking how you need to have that dream just at this very time. And I will be inspired by your dream and thank you for telling me of it in my comments.
Thank you for all your sweet words and the award! I'm proud getting this from you!
Congrats on the awards - which are obviously richly deserved!
And ooh-ooh-ooh, I can't handle scary movies, especially ones with gloved tennis-player-slayers in them! ACK! Thanks for the heads-up.
Your blog is delightful...I can't wait to read more and regularly. And thanks for your very kind comment on my blog. I'm so glad we found each other's "pads!"

And, OMG! I was just looking around for the RSS/subscribe button and saw that you listed me under your Daily Reads! Good heavens - what a huge compliment! Thank you so much!
(I try to get new posts up 2-3 times per week...I wish it could be daily but so far I haven't been able to keep up that pace with all the other responsibilities around here like slopping the hogs and running the still.)
Thank you again so much...I'm adding you to my blogroll asap...

I read your blog comment on that movie with interest and horror. I'm just sorry that it has stuck in your head but I'm glad that you used art to try to dislodge it!! I think the piece is very strong and evocative. The face on the character is rather haunting!! I then scrolled down to discover that you won not one but two awards...so well deserved! To think that you would pass one my way is truly touching because I feel so honoured to have found you and to experience your art on an almost daily basis.
This art is amazing - fabulous piece!
Congratulations on winning two--VERY WELL DESERVED--awards!! And thank you so much for honoring me with them, too!!
Thank you also for your cautionary notes on the movie. Good for you to try to work it out of your head and onto canvas! It's a wonderful piece! Very haunting, and a little bit creepy with it's mixture of innocence, whimsy, and that androgynous (& pregnant? figure with those eyes and that stare...and then there's that glorious flower...wow! Very evocative of the movie you describe. I LOVE it, but I can see how it could really get to Ava after watching the film....
...But, THANKS!! I'm honored that you thought of me for the awards, and I'll be sure to pass them forward!!!!XOXO
Fabulous work!
What a great arch.
It's really gorgeous!!!
Thanks for the warning about the film. I sure will avoid it. I love your colors of green and rose together. Very pretty combo.
Sorry I'm so late but thank you very much for the awards. I feel privileged to be in the company of the others. Lately my art has taken a backseat but soon I'll be back in the creative groove. I can begin to feel it!
Love that postcard.....fabulous colours!
