And, I am a FIRM believer that whatever makes the artist happy, makes for a better work! <BR/>If it were mine, in my style, I'd probably add lots more flowers to the background, perhaps find a place or two to hide a couple tiny butterflies, and then I'd (funky style)journal all over the empty space....but that's just what I always seem to do, so there's no secret wisdom there! ...by the way...I love the house as is,and think it would look great detached from the background, too....maybe you should turn this into several variations on a theme... If you're perplexe...I adore her as is, Alberta! If you're perplexed and feel it needs "something", I think adding some interest (not overpowering though) to the negative space (like everyone else has mentioned)...such as some gesso resist with an overcoating of that same color. The negative space doesn't bother me; but I could see how it could be a bother to you.
