Art in the Park

The Piedmont Festival was so great. My booth was right next to my friend Carol, so I got to spend two days in the prettiest  park, just laughing and listening to good music.

The little girl in the pink dress in the picture below sold to the nicest woman you could imagine.  She's an ed psych professor at Georgia State, and  has a grant to work with students who are hearing impaired. She told me that she's going to hang this painting in her office.  Isn't that the sweetest thing you ever heard?  We started talking about her program and what I teach and how I have two sons in law school at Georgia State and how the little girl in the painting has curls that remind her of her daughter, and, by the time I wrapped the painting up, I felt like she was going home with family!

The second morning of the festival it sprinkled a little bit, and I was afraid we were going to get rained out, but it was not to be. In Atlanta, usually when it rains in August, it just turns the city into a steambath, but this was one of those rare showers that actually cools things off.  So, Sunday was even better.  I met some more interesting people, like the adorable couple in the next pic, and I even got to see Owen Wilson riding his bike through the park. In a couple of weeks, festival season will be in full swing, so I'm going to pack up my tent and head for the Festival on Ponce, September 15-16.  I've begun some new paintings that are making me very happy right now because they are a bit of a return to my early whimsical, magic-themed creatures and oddities. So stay tuned right here for more about new work and upcoming shows!

Thanks ladies! My sister was sweet enough to let me raid her house for furnitiure to spruce up my booth. Her house is an amazing, electic work of art itself! Lisa, you have no idea how much our dialogue has meant to me over the past three and a half years. Your comments and support are what made me feel that I should keep pursuing this dream of mine. Thank you, sweet friend!
